See through leggings, sports-bra nip slips & unfortunately placed sweat patches… I feel like the gym is a hot bed for potential wardrobe malfunctions. I am not ashamed to say I’ve fallen victim to one or two of these before (okay fine, all of them and more hahaha). But am I gonna let these potential fashion faux-pas get in the way of me and my gains? Hell to the no. And you don’t have to either thanks to my super helpful guide, on what to wear to the gym below (you’re so welcome).

FAUX-PAS TO AVOID

  1. Operation Opaque AF

I feel like a see through leggings ‘sitch’ is almost like a right of passage for all gym girls. We’ve all been there babe. But, that doesn’t mean there’s any excuse for making a repeat offence. Unfortunately we all know the biggest offenders here, it’s that cheap and cheerful, (or not so cheerful when you’ve just flashed the whole gym), fabric that’s so thin you could probably floss your teeth with it. The best solution I’ve found is to buy from specialists. Quality is key when it comes to protecting the modesty of that peach. Everything I received from Gymshark was such good quality and there was not as ass-print in sight! (I mean, you know your girl did a full on squat test obvs).

2. Not so sweaty-pants

Sweatpants = life. But let’s not take this literally, nobody wants actual sweaty pants. Well, not visibly anyway. We’ve all seen that gym guy with an ego made of steel who just jumps off the treadmill, big-ass sweat patch, in tow, and just rocks it without an ounce of embarrassment. I have major admiration for that guy… after all, it’s only natural. However, it’s still not a look i’m planning on rocking anytime soon. Again, this one comes down to quality. I’d go for performance fabrics that are sweat wicking if you’re prone to a bit of a sweaty sitch. The Gymshark dreamy cropped leggings  i’m wearing are sweat wicking and super soft, so there is no more itchy, chafey lycra stress!

3. Nip Slip ‘Sitch

If you’re vertically challenged like me, you may also have to jump to reach the pull up bars (or really just any piece of equipment tbh..) On occasion, I have jumped up, feeling like a brown wonder woman, only to look down and realise my sports bra didn’t seem to get the memo. More nip-nosedive than nip-slip. Suddenly the flimsy sports bra I picked up with alllll the cut-outs and delicate strappy detail did not seem like such a great idea. Solution; don’t play when it comes to your ta-tas. Stick with fancy detailing on the back of the bra, on your leggings and on your top! Go for something that covers the full boob and has medium-full support, even if you have little ones like me. I also find halter necks tend to keep everything in place more effectively! The Gymshark Ease sports bra in charcoal that I’m wearing has really cute back detailing, and the ruched front gives you a nice curvy silhouette whilst, (and I can testify), still holding those sneaky buggers in.

FLATTER WHAT YOU GOT

  1. Sculpt that waist

Whilst you’re working on that bod, take advantage of the gifts presented to you by the lycra gods such as Gymshark. Fake it till you make it girl. High waisted leggings are every girl’s best friend. Not only do they ensure you aren’t gonna leave your leggings behind when you jump, (yep it works both ways I’m afraid), but they also pull you in at the waist and give you that hourglass silhouette.

2. Crop it

I love cropped gym tops to complete the look because they fall just above the waist and emphasise the hourglass silhouette even more so. I also find them more practical than longer ones which can bunch up around my stomach and make me, well,  sweaty AF. If you don’t wanna be full on skin-out, you can get nice long sleeved ones like this that cover you up completely, but still fall at that flattering length just above the waist!

3. You do you

The most flattering accessory is your aura. If you don’t feel comfortable in something, it shows! If i’m not feeling comfortable wearing one of the aforementioned slinky, strappy sports bras I notice my whole demeanor changing. I’ll literally slope forward to try and hide the exposed skin, contorting my posture and, lets be honest, putting all those damn pull ups to waste. You wanna focus on your workout and not how you look, so buy sportswear that fits you properly, supports you & makes you feel comfortable! I personally found that these gymshark pieces fit so well and their size guide here makes it really easy to find the right fit!

So now that you are armed with my top-tips to guard you against any further gym-wear fails, let’s leave the nip-slips to Madonna and go get some gains yasss?
